Tryptophan Steal Protocol

Tryptophan Steal Protocol

The way to treat the Tryptophan Steal is to make sure the body gets an adequate supply of vitamin B3. In addition to giving the body a therapeutic dose of B3, we need to limit stress, balance blood sugar, and reduce inflammation, since these are the root causes of the Tryptophan Steal. If you have taken our advice so far, then you have already been treating those root causes pretty well. Also, it bears repeating that the gut repair process from chapters 4–7 in Your Genius Body book is key to effectively treat brain-based issues such as depression, anxiety, and other mood issues. A sick gut cannot provide adequate nutrition to help heal the brain.

Niacinamide 500 – Take 1-2 capsules twice per day

While niacinamide (unlike niacin) has no effect on serum lipid levels, regular use of high doses taken throughout the day provides nutritional support for brain health, memory, and mental function. ◆ Niacinamide does not produce the “flush” seen with niacin and high doses are generally well tolerated.

The goal with this supplement is to provide therapeutic levels, 1000–2000mg per day, of niacinamide to help the body produce more NAD inside the cells. Improving NAD levels allows tryptophan and serotonin levels to rise and reduces the negative effects of the tryptophan steal.
